Vlogs I’ve Been Loving

We don’t have cable. I know it’s weird you can totally judge us. So any TV we watch is streamed through Netflix, Disney Plus, or my favorite way to watch- Vlogs on Youtube!

What is a Vlog?

Basically a video blog. Someone creates a video about their life and other people (me!) watch it! Most of the time new videos are posted weekly and follow a larger big picture story line while also showing the day to day lives of the publisher.

I first started watching vlogs when Sophie was a baby and I needed something entertaining to watch while I was nursing but also could have on with Emily nearby. Just like when I read on my phone, being able to watch a vlog on my phone, iPad, or TV makes it easier to stop and start whenever I need to. Most of the vlogs I follow all have very common themes including healthy living, minimalist lifestyle, travel or adventure, and funny enough van life. As a mom I don’t travel much and I don’t live in a van (although I drive one) but I love seeing other people do it. Here are some of my favorites- I didn’t realize until now that most of them even have a pattern in their names and in their content. I guess you can say I’m consistent in what I like!

The Bucket List Family

The first vlog I followed was The Bucket List Family and since then I have become a big time vlog fan. Garett and Jessica travel the world with their three kids. They promote healthy, active living and spending time on adventures with your kids. They live full time in Hawaii on the beach and then take unbelievable adventures all around the world. Every time I watch one of their videos I can’t help but want to pack all my kids up and fly somewhere amazing for a massive adventure. They make traveling with kids realistic. They don’t pretend its easy but they do make it look fun. I value how much time and effort they put into having experiences with their kids over buying them things. Their kids are brave and smart and incredibly well educated in different cultures. Best part is that my kids enjoy watching too so this vlog is something fun we can all share together.

Eamon & Bec

Eamon and Bec are two Canadians who used to travel the world in their van and now are renovating a cabin in the woods. They are weird and quirky but super fun to watch. Almost all of their content these days is about their renovations but somehow each week it is still just as captivating as the last. Not as suitable for little ears as other options but still a thoroughly entertaining couple to follow.

Trent & Allie

Trent and Allie also used to travel the world while living in their van, but now are living in the remote mountains of Utah, building their own home, and expecting their first baby. They are unbelievably positive, especially Allie despite some major setbacks and challenges. I admire how hard they work and that they value doing something themselves just to learn. They also happen to be friends with Eamon and Bec so it’s fun to watch their projects progress at the same time.

Kara & Nate

Kara and Nate used to travel the world with their suitcases, flying from one country to another before returning home to the US for the pandemic. They bought a van and have been traveling around the country ever since. It was fun to see them transition into van life while their fellow vloggers and friends were transitioning to “home” life. Kara and Nate have one of the biggest vlog followings on YouTube with over 2.5 million subscribers. They are currently working their way towards visiting all 50 states and doing something unique in each place they go. They also recently resumed some international travel briefly and showed how intense it is to try to travel right now.

Sailing La Vagabond

Riley and Elayna live their lives traveling around the world while living on a sailboat. They just had their second son and are in the process of building a new boat to live on so they are temporarily on land. They are from Australia and I appreciate their honesty and willingness to share the harder parts of their lifestyle along with the amazing under water footage.

I like to think I have a bit of variety in my subscriptions. Some families, some without kids, life in a van, life on a boat, life in a cabin. After watching all these vloggers I can honestly say that I wouldn’t want to live on a boat, I love being home too much to travel for months on end, and I think I have too many pairs of leggings to fit into a small cabinet in a van. I love seeing the adventures these families have and supporting their quest for a life different than a “normal” one, but I’m glad I’m not the one doing it.
